14 Bolt metric e brake calipers

I did this swap. There is machining required on the wheel hubs so the rotors slip on over them and you have to cut off the original caliper mounting brackets off the axle tubes and weld a new one on in the correct position.

The spindles and wheel hubs of the newer 14 bolt are a different depth than the older stuff and do not interchange.

I would sooner swap the whole diff out than swap the brakes out again in the future. The only reason I didn't is because my old diff is trussed, geared and lockered. It would have been a bigger and more expensive venture to build a new axle than replacing the brakes.

My AAM 10.5 was $200 off craigslist. It was complete and in decent shape. With a complete take out axle I had all the right brackets and cores for new calipers. Rotors and 1410 yoke from ebay. Pads and seals from rockauto. Calipers from local Oreillys. 14B Detroit locker dropped right in. Didn't re-gear (4.10) but new stuff everywhere else. All in I was about $950 for a locked, disc brake 14B, with new brakes, new seals and factory designed e-brake. Massive brakes! I did have to move perches, pretty easy bulletproof setup.

That's what I would do

That would be perfect if I had a fullsize. I have a cab and chassis 14bolt so its narrower.

Yup, definitely look for a modern cab and chassis for the diff. I have two sitting in my backyard right now that I would happily give to you for free, but shipping would be an issue haha

How wide are the newer cab and chassis axles. I had one from a later 90s truck and it was 64 inches wide, which is to wide

64" is the same as 73-87 style in the C&C rear 14ff

unless you go custom made thats it as far as i recall

2001-2010 cab and chassis does not use the 10.5" 14 bolt. It uses the 11.5" AAM 14 bolt. They are about 68" width. The spring spacing is very close to the square body one tons. Some vans used the 10.5" 14 bolt but they are wide.

My friend said I could take the rear axle he took out of a customers 2011 3/4 ton HD pickup if I wanted it..
Thing has massive axle tubes, look like 4" diameter ?--and calipers that are huge, they were still OK and the rotors are good too,it is complete ,the reason it was replaced was the pinion seal let all the gear lube escape and they didn't realize it,drove it until the pinion bearing was so loose you can move it up & down by hand a good 1/4" and it got noisy...(gee--I wonder why ?)..

I have no use for the thing, not sure of the ratio either--the center looks like a typical 14 bolt but I think my friend said it had the 11.5" ring gear..the salvage yard he bought the replacement one from only charged him $250,and did not want the core back !..
Other guys have told me this axle is worth $300 even needing a rebuild...?..my friend will just let his "scrap guy" haul it off unless I get it soon..
