Wasilla AK,
What year did that start ? I always thought it started with the GMT400 but I have a 93 here at the house with inboard drums.

I worked on a 94 that had inboard. Haven't been around many newer than that. I'd assume mid 90's was when they got switched over for good.

I pulled the rear axle out of a '96 SRW that is outboard drums. It was a one owner truck with 130K on the odometer, so I believe that it was original.

This truck is original, I’m the second owner and it has 83,000 on it . I just expected it to be outboard mounted drums lol

Our '93 was inboard like yours. My '97 G3500 cargo van axle is outboard. I've read somewhere that van axles are more likely to be outboard, but it seems like a roll of the dice. :dunno:

GM is known for different plants using up old stock before implementing a minor change like brakes. One plant gets through old stock 2-3 years before the last one sometimes. Or maybe they transfer all the old stock to one factory?

I work in engineering and these types of changes for ease of maintenance do not warrant scrapping inventory.
