I just replaced the outer axle seal a few months ago and noticed today it's really leaking again. I'm certain the seal was the right size etc. What else can I do? Nothing looked messed up edge wise or anything like that.

We talking about the one at the spindle, where the axle shafts bolt onto the hub (is there supposed to be a gasket there?) or other?

The spindle seal can be troublesome, but there's a later one that fits nicely and is a two-part seal, has helped lots of folks. SKF 28554 if memory serves.

No not there, there is a gasket there. I'll post some pics.

that position is called wheel seal .

if there is a grove on the seal riding surface it needs a speedi sleve . or better yet the newer style seal in a seal style that dosnt spin on the axle seal surface but spins on its self .

Where can I get one of the newer ones? happen to know a part number? took me forever to track down the one I just put in it.

I will see what I can find out. It won't be until late tonight when I get home. In the meantime, you can search Pirate 4x4 - that's where I got my info.

It was a pretty easy job. The hardest part was removing the center from the installation piece. I actually kept mine for future use :-)

I used a drill to modify the tool. And a hammer and chisel instead of a pipe.

I would replace it. The groove in the spindle has likely nicked the rubber, even though you probably can't see any flaws. Better safe than sorry.

old trick also red loctight on the seal area before speedi sleave .

and I have just tapped it on slow with the back lip and been fine .

also the big cup the sleave come in the box in works great as a axle nut socket storage cup in your tool box to keep grease / oil in the cup .:D
