I have a 14 bolt out of an 85 which has a different pinion support or straddle bearing than earlier models. Randys R&P wants like $63 for just this bearing. I've tried to cross it over in some bearing books at work but not much help. I can get the same bearing with a 1-5/8" od and 3/4" thick but the ID is what is hanging me up. A BH-2016 I think is close but the ID is at 1-1/4" which is just a little bigger than the end of the pinion. Anyone know of any other sources for this bearing cheaper than Randys?

# DC 57524 is the bearing you need. Outside diameter 1.625"(1 5/8") Width .75"(3/4") Bore 1.235" (1 15/64"=1.2344") Type B

Parts diagram shows 3 bearings for the pinion.

In order from yoke towards ring gear:

Bearing, Png Frt 7451155
Bearing, Png Inter 7451888
Bearing, Hyp Dr Png Rr (1985) 15595830

I assume, since only the one is shown as 1985, separate of the 1986+, that is the one you need? It goes on what looks like a little nub on the end of the pinion gear, correct?

Still in stock at gmpartsdirect.com, looks like it's about $50 to your door.

I think you could buy one at a bearing dealer for alot less than that. Maybe not though.

Thats the bad part of having the lame 84'/85' year small pinion bearing 14FF. You get a smaller pinion bearing that costs more. I have one too.

Have you tried LMC Truck? I got a 3rd pinion bearing from them for like $25 (but that was for a '78 axle).

I haven't had much luck yet. Seems as though gmpartsdirect is the cheapest I can find so far. Looked at the lmc catalog but they list the same bearing to fit a 73-87 which is not the case. Might have to bite the bullet but still do a little more checking. Thanks for the help though!!:D

What about using a pinion support fr the common bearing? I don't think the pinion gear is different, is it? If not, then you'd just need to shim the "new" support to the correct depth, right?

Same pinion, it's the bore in the housing that's different. You could machine the oddball housing larger to use the common bearing. The '84-85 bearing is no longer available anywhere AFAIK, they're tough and expensive to find as NOS.

Can anyone post up pictures of the offending parts for future viewing ?
I have a 14 bolt, and have no clue what year it is or what it came out of.

This is a good thread for future reference for all....:waytogo:

the cast in 3rd bearing support inside the diff housing NOT the pinion support is the problem child here .

last few times i have seen a link to this rare bearing they want CRAZY money for sure .
