I am pretty sure I snapped a shaft in my 14 bolt. I can turn the right rear tire when it is in park. The left rear I can't. Can anyone point me in the right direction to a thread or write up on how to change it out? Where would be a good place to get a new one? Any help would be great. Thanks!

I seriously doubt you broke the shaft, but undo the 8 bolts in the center and pull it out if its the ff axle

Is the diff open type or some type of locker?
Its easy enough to pull an axle, as suggested above.

Can't get an easier axle to change. As was said just the 8 bolts holding the axle in and pull it out. IF you actually did break it you will have to get the broken half out. Use a extendable strong magnet to get any small pieces out. May or may not get the rest of the shaft out but it's worth a try.

I think it is an open diff. I figured it was that easy, just wanted to make sure. All I know is the left rear is the only wheel pushing me along. Any other ideas on what it could be?

You will only get one tire at a time to turn under most circumstances.

If you have an open diff and broke an axle shaft the truck would not move under its own power.

different question

I just picked up a '83 c20 with a d44 front and a 14sf rear. can the rear be converted to a FF?
Also what is the better size rims to run on these axles? I want to run a
37 x 12.5 tire.
and by the way, gutting the c20 for my '82 k5

Better to start a new thread than hijack someone else's ;)

Took off the over and there was no parts or shiny oil. Pulled the shaft and it is one piece as you guys said before. I think it is a limited slip. Did the 14 bolt come with a gov bomb locker? If so, anyone have any pics?

Edit: Found pics and I indeed have the gov bom ls. From what I am reading, I need a new carrier since I don't want to replace the ls. What are some good inexpensive options?

find a 14BSF with an open carrier in it, transfer your gears to it. If you want a locker you can add that to the open carrier.
