My burb has a 14 bolt sf currently, that needs gone through. I plan on towing 7k pretty regularly, and occasionally 10k. How well does the sf hold up to regular towing?

If it didn't need going thru it would be fine, but for the price of a good used 14bff you are better off.

I tow 4k lbs regularly with 35" tires and a 14 bolt sf axle. No complaints

Towing that weight your at the limit but fine. heavy payload and i would want the FF.
I agree, but read his post, he needs to go thru the axle, wether it's breaks or bearings or whatever it it, for that price he can get a clean used 14bff.
I have mostly 14bsf axles under my rigs and one ff, but that is only because they don't need anything.
I am working on a D60ff rear and 14bff so when any of my sf axles need work I just toss them.:thumb:
No point in wasting my money on the sf.

If you are going to spend money on a 14 bolt, spend money on a full floater.

The problem is that it is tough to find a FF around here without buying a whole truck. My sf is needing pinion bearings, and I plan on a detroit at the same time, but I can put it off for awhile and hold out for a good FF.

If I find a different year of FF, will my e-brake cables swap over?

Where in Montana?
There are couple of guys here in MT and they have access to junk yards where they get them cheap enough, plus if you are going with a detroit, that alone is a reason not to stay with your sf, the detroit for a ff is half the price.

by Missoula, and our big junk yard crushed out and closed a few years ago. There are two salvage yards still, but nothing where you can go in on your own and get stuff, and they dont seem to care to get much local buisiness as they sell over the net.

Can't you just buy and scrap out a truck? That is what I do a lot. Get the parts for "free" half the time. That, or I imagine there has to be someone fairly close by you that is on the board that may have one.

I think atleast 8 suburbans and two trucks have died for parts to build this suburban. That is probably what will happen to get a good FF, I am looking for a 350 anyway.

Yeah as I said the detroit alone is worth the trouble.
