I have a 14 bolt SF in my 89 Suburban and Im going with 40" tires soon. How strong is the SF and does anyone see a problem with it handling 40 inch tires?

I'd find a FF and be done. From what I've read 14sf will hold those tires but you wont have the assurance of a full floater with its (practically never break factor). I'd run the semi floater up to 37" tires or skinny 38's and never worry though.

I was thinking the same, break an axle and Im done, Ill look for a FF, bigger stronger ring gear also.

f**k semi floaters

i just had somebody come into the shop today to pickup a 14sf and we charge a core charge so everyone brings there carnage with them. the 14sf he brought in snapped one axle and the pumpkin spun on the tubes becuase the welds broke. this guy told me he was only runnin 35's out at glamis where traction isnt in abundance . go full floater the price is marginal but the strength is phenomenal in differences

The FF vs SF argument is pointless. The full floater wins hands down but the SF isnt a bad axle. The pumpkin wouldnt have turned and axle wouldnt have snapped if he would ran a bead around the tubes.
