My question is can I change a 8 Lug to a 6 lug SF? I found one for $200.00 but it is 8 Lug and I'd like to upgrade but keep my 15" wheels.

One of them is wider by 1/2” each side. It has been done

200 bucks sounds like a fantastic deal if you want to also go 8 lug up front... but otherwise i would pass, and just look for or order one that is already 6 lugs?

unless you have to have super aftermarket chromoly axles and are going to order new ones?

I would think its going to be tough finding 6 lug axles that are loose and being sold without the assembly, and then you might have fitment issues. When i needed one for the K5, i ordered it off of some place like carpart.com (or something that sounded like that) - after talking with the people, they were just a broker, but bought from yards local to me, and hired someone local to me to pick it up, and deliver it to my work... and they were willing to warranty (separately from the dismantler), and would pay the delivery guy to pick it up if I found anything wrong with it in the first few days. The guy showed up, dropped it off -I pulled the covers and drums and inspected everything -looked good. total investment was just shy of 500 bucks including delivery. might be a lot considering what you used to be able to find 14 bolt FF axles and 8 lug front ten bolts for... BUT, I wanted that 6 lug SF14, and it came with delivery!

If I were doing it again, I would look into the hummer H2 rear end with disc brakes and E-locker... and then change the front to 8 lug if needed to match it.

Unless you plan on beating it, the 14sf will hold up to a decent amount of abuse without moly shafts

as i was saying, as far as I can remember, the SF14 has 33 spline axle shafts that are a bigger diameter than a FF14? also they have more ground clearance and weigh less. I always thought they should have entirely replaced the rear ten bolts in trucks. Can you imagine the used parts market if we had 30-40 years of good used SF14 bolts laying around?? world would be a better place, and blank blank not saying anything about blank blank yadda yadda blank blank blank.
