Hey all, I tried searching but I couldnt seem to find what I was looking for. Anyway just need a part number for the socket if anyone has it. Ive been all around town but the the only 6 prong I could find was from kragens and it did not fit right. Thanks for any info

hmm a 6 and 4 pin? do you attach and detach? I was at napa today and didnt see anything like that?

i asked the snappy guy about that socket last week...he had it and it was $59.99, but it had another tube up the middle of it (like it went inside of the nut to keep it centered)and i wasn't sure if it would fit the 14bff also(it was listed for the d60, then he had 1 a little bigger around that was d70), so i passed on it(for now)....i found 1 somewhere online last week for $29 that didn't have the center piece in it.

are the nuts the same on d60 and 14bff?

depends on year, pull the hubs. On the 6 prong kragens socket not fitting right, it should fit only one way (non symetrical prongs), basically try rotating it different ways until it fits. Thats the socket i have and it worked for me.

the axles came out of an 86 k30, but the ring gear has a year of 84 stamped in them. the part of the nut that the prongs engaged in looked to me like they had rounded bottoms(i'm away from axles right now, i will check when i get back home, but iirc they looked like half circles) and the socket tabs were square.

was i seeing things or are the slots rounded on some 14bff?

yeah, my slots in the spindle nut have half circles on the bottoms of them and the socket with square prongs still works.

I took that same Kragen socket and rounded the prongs on the inside. It worked good after that.

hmm, I will give that a shot and see if it works thanks for the info guys

I did the same thing. Just hit the square prongs with a grinder and made them round 'nough to fit the nut.

I just got one yesterday... I bought mine from CarQuest, it was a 6 prong and the part number was STL 27400

Its a CarQuest brand tool.

i got a universal "1 ton axle" socket and it works on both the 60 and 14ff. Ive put it to alot of use here lately:doah:

well the socket I got just doesnt seem to work right. I rotated it but the prongs are off from the holes on spindle nut. I searched for the one from carquest but the part number isnt coming up.

Btw the part number I got for the socket I have is 648475 and is 2-5/8

I just used a file to knock off the edges and it did the trick. Mine came from O'Reilly's.
