Hey everyone I am swapping my truck from dually to single rear wheel. It has the Cab and chassie rear in it with the regular 1 ton spring perch measurments, 40.5 inches. I was just going to try and get a 1 ton single rear from the junk yard but have not had any luck finding a 4.56 single rear wheel. I read on pirate in the 14bolt bible that you can swap the hubs from a single rear wheel on to the cab and chassie to change the width because the housings are the same other wise. Has anyone ever done this? I am a bit confused as to what to do about the brakes. Do you have to weld on a new backing plate flange or use a spacer or some thing to change the width of the backing plate to match up with the single wheel hubs? Any and all info on this would be really great. Thanks

Sorry, I can't help you with the width issue. But you should do a disk beake swap on the 14 bolt. Its cheap and easy to do. Its all bolt on stuff. Check out diy4x.xom for the disk brake brackets. Sorry I couldn't help more. I'm sure you will get all the needed info here shortly. Good luck!

I believe the mounting faces have the same measurement between the drw and the srw. To my knowledge it is the same hubs mounted in different drums, thus making the backing plate further away from the hub and the spring perch. I know for a fact that the drums on a srw are 5 5/8" from outside to outside and the drw drums are 6 5/8" because i ordered new ones the other day for my truck and they were the wrong ones. I will measure that from mounting surface to mounting surface for you tomorrow on my 14bff srw. You could also just throw some single wheels on there and see how they fit!:dunno:

You could also find a single rear wheel 14Bolt and swap you guts into it. They are all interchangeable. Then you could sell the C&C 14 bolt and recoup some cost.

I have a friend who did the opposite, so yeah you can do it and it's all bolt on.
The only reason he had to weld on anything is that he added disc brakes.

IIRC the hubs AND backing plates are different but the axle housing is the same. The DRW hubs have a narrower WMS to WMS than a SRW and that makes the backing plates different as well (more back spacing).

You have to housing widths:
The DRW is the widest
The SRW and the C&C DRW is the narrow one.
The difference in the latter 2 is the backing plate and drums.
DREMU here on this board did the switch from SRW to C&C by using the hubs off a DRW axle I had.
To make sure I didn't misrepresent anything or forget anything you can ask him.

my boy swapped to a drw when he did he 1/2 to 3/4 ton upgrade he had to cut the perches off and move them out i belive for the k5 i don't think they are the same i could be wrong though
