I have been hearing this crazy popping noise which i think is coming from my 14 bolt. Every thing in the axle is new and i popped the diff cover off to check the gears and every thing looked good. I also jacked up the rear end and pulled the driveshaft to spin the pinion and it felt fine and wasnt making any noises. So this has me a little confused?
Well since i had it jacked up i decided to replace the driver's side wheel seal in the hub b/c it was leaking. So after i pulled the hub and changed out the seal i went to install the axle shaft again and i couldnt get it to sit flush with the hub. I figured that this what not good, but i wanted to try and lightly tap the axle in with a rubber mallet. When i did this i was able to get the axle all the way in, but it was sitting lower then the hub and i could not get the bolt holes to line up. So i was hoping some of you guys could help me figure out what is going on with my axle? I welded the carrier and everything is brand new, and it only has about 100-150 street miles on it. The popping noise would only happen when i would turn, but now when i take off it does it every time, and it is gradually getting worse? Also i dont even know what is going on with the axle shaft, and why its not lining up at all? Thanks for the help in advance.

Sounds like you need to pull the carrier and check the welds on your spider gears. I'll suspect that they're broke and maybe a side gear is fubar as well.

here is a pic of the carrier. It use to be a gov-bomb.. so i dunno if the welds are the problem or not?
