i was looking through pirate 14 bolt bible but didnt see this. whats the proper way to put in new wheel bearings into the 14ff? i have them installed in the hub already but just need to know how to seat and torque that nut down. thanks again.

Did it yesterday. Torque to 50lbs., back off till just loose, hand tighten, tighten till lock ring is installable, torque lock nut to 65lbs. I used the Haynes instructions.

Mine was slide hub onto spindle, install nut to 45 lb/ft then tighten utill you can slide in the bar, replace snap ring, install axle.

Im new to the site. And new to the K5 world. I have a 77 GMC Jimmy with a Dana 44 front. The right front wheel bearing is going out. I have done transmissions, brakes, full engine rebuilds, transfer cases, but i havent ever torn into an axle. How hard is this to do? and about how long will it take?

I have the style with the single nut and keyed slot (little block).

Personally I think 45 ft-lbs. is too tight. I install the nut initially to maybe 45-50 ft-lbs. to make sure the bearings are seated but then back it off until just snug and there is no play in the hub. Then just turn the nut until the key way lines up. Not saying this is wrong or right, but I've never had a problem. The truck is not a daily driver but made numerous 100-200 mile round trips on the freeway to the trail.

For the style with the key and slot, the install is similar. Tighten nut to 50lbs., loosen till just loose, then hand tighten. Then tighten till keyways line up and install key and retaining ring. This is the Haynes manual way.
