Are there any 14 bolt FF with 4.56 gears from the factory? How hard are they to find? When I lift my truck, I'm going to put a 14 bolt in the rear and it sure would be easier if it already had the gears in it I'm looking for /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Yes there are axles that came from the factory with 4.56 gears. They are rare in civilian form though. The axle you want to look for is an axle (actually both axles) from the 1 1/4 ton CUCV Military pcikup trucks. The rear axle is a 14bff with 4.56 gears and a detroit locker from the factory. So then you don't have to worry about adding a Locker, its already there. The front axle out of those trucks is the D60 with 4.56's so you want that too if you can get it.

The military 1 tons come w/ 4.56 and detroit off the line.
haven't seen a civilian 14 bolt come w/ 4.56, but that doesn't mean they didn't make them.

Where would I find these military truck with the axles in them? Are there salvage yards for these types of trucks that I could pull the axels out of?

just search a few yards i have found several 14bff rears with factory 456 gears,of course all these were out of two wheel drive trucks

I believe I remember someone saying that you could get a 14BFF with 4.56s factory from under old motorhomes with certain engines. I know that is vague, but sounds familiar to me. And, it would make sense.

My 1984 K-30 came with 4.56s. I know the original owner of the truck and he ordered a 1 ton manual trans, 205 t-case. the only down fall is he ordered it with a straight 6 engine!

My local Army Reserve has a couple of these K-30s sitting around that I'd like to get my hands on. Do you think they would sell one to me or would I have to deal with tons of government red tape and the like? If not, where is the easiest place to find old army K-30s?

Any government auction. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Type in "government auctions" in a search box and see what shows up. There will be quite a few of them.

I have an '84 M1008 I won thru a government auction site.

It has the 4.56 gears and Detroit Locker, both from the factory. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I bought a '77 1-ton single wheel 4x4 Crew cab a little while back that had factory 4.56 gears in the FF 14-bolt rear and Dana 60 front. I had assumed they were 4.10's before I bought it, but I found the original equipment sticker in the glove box that said:
GT5 REAR AXLE - 4.56 RAT

It originally came with a SB400 and a TH400 tranny.

Hey Jason, I have an extra 14 FF that I will be getting rid of soon. I am not sure of the gears but I will be checking soon. The one going into the Blazer has 4.56's in it, for now. But the extra one has had a very easy life and was well cared for. The guy I got it from serviced the truck for years until the guy scattered the motor. When you get ready to get one let me know. When I get it opened up Ill let you know what gears are in it.

When I get ready to do the lift I'll see if you still have it. Not sure how long that will be though, I'm going to get a winch and winch bumper before I do the lift.

go to some military surplus auctions, and they they come with a gov lock, not a detroit, you can not put a detroit in one that came with a gov lock but if you find one that is open you can put a detroit in it, plus there a dime a dozen.
