I need some opinion's and some help with the carrier on my 14bff. Today I finally got around to putting the lock-right in the rear and when I got it apart I saw that the cross was broken and had chewed into the carrier bad enough it was noticeable. It looks like it came apart inside the spider gear and was broken for a while because the other half of the shaft is kinda fused to the spider. So my question is this should I get a new carrier with the spiders and cross or find a new cross and use the old carrier? If I should replace it where can I find a new one and what do I look for in the new one? I have 4.10 gears in it now and as far as I know that is what it originally had from the factory. Other than the junk yard where can I source a new one? Thanks in advance for the help I'm pretty bumed right now I was so close to being ready to install everything and now this.:doah:

Have you called Randy's ring and pinion? They should be just down the road a spell from you. I know they sell new ones and every once in a while they have used ones for sale also.

I haven't really given it much thought yet I just found it earlier today. What do they usually run?

If money is your concern and you determine that a new carrier is too $$ then I'd prolly buy a whole axle from a junk yard with the right carrier and swap it in. Buying new spiders is up to you. If you can set up the gears yourself then you are pretty much out the cost of a new used axle- plus you have extra hubs and shafts on hand.

Is there something in your wheelin history that you can think of might have caused this? A big snap or pop on the trail but couldn't find anything wrong? Just wondering what you were doing when this could have happened.

Mudstud, I never got a chance to run the axle I checked it out when I got it and it seemed ok. I guess its a good thing I decided to go with a locker or I would have found out the hard way it was bad.
