14B DETROIT DURABILITY

New thoughts.
I put a detriot in my 14FF myself after removing the spiders i welded up. So I've been in there a couple of times. as far as parts go if the detroit is bad it will have shaved teeth on it and the filings should be pretty small. The dragging tire is also a bad sign toward a "new" axle. Replacing the detroit takes about 2 hours your first time with with the axle in the truck and no air or specialty tools other than an electric impact, basically my current situation. That axle is a self lube design, it has gear running oil from hub to hub. If the wheel bearings are bad, i.e. the dragging side, the shavings will still end up in the carrier. Either way it sounds like a bum deal. If you want more ideas let me know.

Thats pretty lame on their part /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Unfortuneatly young adults are not treated very well when it comes to these things, I remember when I first got my truck and got screwed a few times by mechanics. Sometimes pushing them a little and showing them you are serious will get them to do something.
