for time involved and cost of materials (if you don't already have any) this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33728&item=2466437557 may be an alternative and save time and frustration.
I know making your own gives a sense of accomplishment, but why not use something that is decently priced and you know works. just thinking out loud.
