I went looking for a 14b ff at the junkyard today, but someone already pulled the pinions out of all of them. I found one on a 77 Chevy with the pinion laying next to it, but I need info on reinstalling the pinion. What do i do if i don't know the size of the shim? Or can I just bolt it back in?

Install it, run the pattern, and adjust from there. Without checking pattern and backlash it's a shot in the dark.

i think all the shims are in the pinion assembly /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
defenatly check the patteren and backlash after you put it in /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

The shims he is talking about are for setting pinion depth not pinion preload. These shims go between the axle housing and the removable pinion support housing. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

ok, well got the 14 bolt today... grabbed everything that looked like it came from the axle (1 shim?), and im hoping it will all work out... just need a new diff cover and the u joint now /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
