So I have found 4 6lug 14bsf in the local scrap yard. does any one know the gear ratio for the codes stamped on the axle tubes. 1:KGU 2:KGW 1:TMM I would like to see if i could get the better ratio.

I am going to trade a 8lug 14bff out of and 05' 2500. I know the cost to make the 8lug work in my K5 plus new wheels isnt worth it.

I have seen on here that the 14sf will be a great upgrade to my trashed 10b.

So the old 10b had 3.42 what 14b would be the better choice. Since the ratio is different I will have to change the front also before to long.

I would look for one with 4:10s. IMO, I would look for both a front/rear matching set from a K20 or 3/4 burb. This will get you 2 complete axles with matched gearsets. But will also require you to get 8 lug 16" wheels...

Or, just keep looking for the elusive 6 lug 14bsf. You can find one from an 88-up IFS truck but you will have to move the spring perches and shock mounts.

My Dad's 98 Chevy has a 6 lug 14b in it. He bought the truck new in 98, so it's factory.

What's weird is the trucks combination... It's a Ext Cab Cheyenne. Power locks, Manual Windows, 4x4, and.................. 4.3L V6. Lol.

It has a heavy rear spring pack, and the 14b in it. It's also an auto trans.

What was GM thinking with that??

It was built on a Friday and they were trying to meet their quota for the weeks build numbers. I can see it now...
Alright, last one for the day.
We're outta ten bolts.
Grab that 14 bolt and spring pack from the 2500 line.
OK.
May as well put a 350 in this one.
We're outta 350s.
Get a 305 then,
Outta those too.
What's left?
4.3s.
Whatever, it'll have to do. What time is it?

Alright, almost beer o'clock! That truck done yet?
...

You get the idea here.

Does it have F44 in the glove box RPO code options list?
Years ago on www.off-road.com/chevy we started combining knowledge and noticed that everyone with a half ton WITH a 14SF had the F44 option code.

Some combinations of RPO's added the 6 lug 14SF. We had a few guys with heavy duty half tons with the 10 bolts and others with regular 1/2 tons with the 6 lug 14 SF. Never did figure out rhyme or reason.

I'll check and see if it has the F44 code. I know it has 3.73s, and the rear end is open (no G80).

This one definitely isnt a heavy half. It doesn't have an aux trans cooler or anything.

To give it credit, it does seem to have a lot of power for only being a 4.3L. We've used it to pull a loaded car hauler, and it pulled it every bit as good as the old Z71 with a 350...
