14bff Axle GURU\'s

I pulled the cover off of my 14bff today and found these numbers and such on the ring gear....

GM 464919 11 45 9 85

tell me what this means I do not know how to break the code.... thanks Jason

Re: 14bff Axle GURU\'s

don't know about the rest but the 11 and 45 are the ring and pinion teeth counts, means 4.10 gears.

11 = pinion teeth
45 = ring gear teeth

so
45/11 = 4.09090909 gear ratio. basically 4.10s for short

9 = is month it was produced
85 = is the year it was produced

Dont know what the first numbers mean. Serial number I suppose.

Hope this helps /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I wouldn't bother changing the gears at all unless you're going to go all the way to 5.13s. The 14 ff has two significant ratios IMO....stock (whatever that happens to be) and 5.13s. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: 14bff Axle GURU\'s

well this is the problem. I will need opinions.

I have my 10bolt in the front with 4.56's and a lockright now. Do I have the 14bff regeared to match. Know that all I have to do is buy the gears and intall kit and all the labor is free and convert the front to 8 lug, or do I buy a 3/4ton Dana 44 with 4.10's and flat top knuckles from a guy for $150. I already have 5 16" 8 lug wheels so that is not an issue. What would be my best bet....Jason

Re: 14bff Axle GURU\'s

I'd regear the 14 bolt to match. If you want to go deeper gears later you can always sell 4.56 gears I'd think. I haven't priced a loc-right recently but I'd say you should keep a hold of that.
