So im gunna start with my 14b rear soon. Ill start by shaveing the bottom a little I need an answer on if i can use a torch for the major cutting. I dont wanna make it brittle. Then grind the rest smooth.

Then i would like to put disk brakes on it. I have a 8 lug 10b front can i use the calipers and rotors? Whats the favored caliper mounts?

I have never done gears and lockers myself am i correct that say a detroit or ARB replaces the carrier?

Whats the thought on inboarding the shocks i dont realy understand the therory there, why do it?

And finally the project is converting a 2wd CC to 4wd and im moveing the spring mounts so would i be better off to go to longer springs to begin with? Kerts b52's look nice can i go longer than 52's?

thanks

I would use a sawzall and a grinder for the lip.
I got the ORD disc kit but way back when I bought the kit, it was the only one offered at the time so I would say the Poison spider brackets look nice.

The ARB replaces ther carrier.

others will chime in.

I think cutting the lip with a cutoff wheel works better.

The calipers should work fine, just need to find some brackets and calipers. There are lots of vendors that make kits.

An ARB replaces the whole carrier but on a FF 14 bolt, the detroit only replaces the spider gears.

Inboarding shocks angles them inward, thus increasing the verticle travel your axle can achieve with the same travel shocks. This also decreases their effectiveness. Another reason for the popularity of inboarding shocks is that you don't have to cut into the floorboards to use longer travel shocks.

I would stick with stock length springs.

I think im gunna start this project tomorrow. What is everyones prefrence to cleaning the axle up of rust tar ect.? Flapper disk, wire wheel, sandblast? Also i had another thought.... When i rebuild engines i paint the inside of the block for better oil return...now i know this is a tiny space and its flooded with oil but......nevermind thats just silly :haha: blame the beer! Im gunna make a mess tomorrow im sure.

Lots of guys that race paint the inside of their axle housings. I would say it is overkill, but hey that isn't a bad thing. If you sandblast use Black Beauty instead of sand. Any sand left in the housing will kill bearings. Blk Beauty is not as hard & any small amount left will not kill a bearing.
