I am trying to change the brakes on my 95 K2500 454, it has the 14bFF and everyone tells me that 86 and up the drum should slide right off i am not having any luck, it looks like the whole hub and everything is one peice and there is no way it can slide right off.Any help would be great

You have to pull off the 8 bolts that holed the axle shaft in. then take out the lock nuts/washer that hold the hub on, then the whole hub/drum will com off.
It isnt fun :crazy:
 
I know on my 14 bolt I had to pull the axle shaft, lock rings and then release the brakes through the access hole in the backing plate. Then the hub came right off when I tapped on it with a hammer. Watch your toes

As stated, the 8 inner bolts on the hub have to come out. This will allow you to pull the axleshaft out. When you do that, you will see a large nut (socket available for free rental at Autozone if you don't have one). It's been a while, but I believe there is a keyway and a lockring (it's been a while so others might be able to correct me if I'm wrong) as well.

This is what makes the axle a full floater (FF), the hub/drum is held on by the axle housing, not the axleshaft.

1/2 ton axles and 3/4 tons equipped with 14SF (if that was available) in 86 would have the "slip on" style drums, but not 3/4 and 1 tons equipped with a 14FF.
 
i think that the slip on drums for FF started in 1996, not 1986. My 96 1 ton had slip on drums, just like a sf, but the axle and hub were just like the old 14 ff
 
the pictured axle is NOT a skip on drum. either way, that drum is heavy, don't pull it off the spindle until you have a clear spot to set it down, you ain't going far with it
 
Come on girls, It aint that heavy. I unloaded my 14ff and D60 complete hub to hub (The d60 still had the leafs attached too) off of my trailer by myself and moved them into the garage. :doah: Now that, I wouldn't recomend. But bend you knees get a good grip on the drum when you get it loose and you'll have no probs.

I couldn't get the 14 bolt off the truck myself, it was full of oil. Damn thing has to weigh over 400 lbs.
 
I unloaded a 14bff by myself, and had to take a week off work to show for it. :doah:

Luckily I tried the 14 bolt first and not the 60.

Your drums are def. not slip on, I have a '87 axle and it's still the old style. Some came with a lock ring and keyway inside the hub, others came with two lock rings and a washer.
