The 14bFF rear axle came with my Blazer when I bought it so I don't know it's history.

Is there any way to destinguish between the years of the axle?

I have drums.

Thanks for any and all input  !

does it really matter? if it doesn't have fins all over it, it is an older style one.

The reason why I asked the question is because I don't know if it really matters :doah:.

It doesn't matter. The newer ones use different bearings and you can remove the drums without disassembling the hubs. Other than that, all FF 14 bolts are pretty much the same.

Look for the BOM number on the rear side of the passenger axle tube.
Cross reference that to the Dana Expert to find the year.

And not all older 14FF are the same. I know of two different pinion gear 3rd bearing designs, and have heard of but not seen a third.

It really doesn't matter though.

I loved racing them. They would always say be carefull its a Chevy you might break something:D Then after that they just got smaller and smaller and smaller in my rear view mirror:D

All 14FF 1987 and earlier are the same, then there was a pinion bearing change that also came with the ribbed housing starting in 1988 and later.

The only difference is 3/4 or 1 ton.

And....

There were three different brake shoe sizes.

Lets not get technical now. :D There was no specific year for what brakes it had though.
