i ordered a bearing and race complete set for my 14bff outers, cleaned 'em up real well, brought the outers to a local shop, had the races pressed in and the old out. one of the inner, larger races was too small, however. is there something i'm missing here, or did the company i got it from screw up?

i made a few orders from 3 different sites at once but i'll go through my email to find where i got this stuff and report back ASAP.

EDIT: just looked it up, the stuff came from 4wheelparts.com. they're pretty prominent, you would think this wouldn't be a problem with boxed sets.

I would check the ID demension of the hub where the race presses in to see if it's over size. It probably is not the race. Those are precision ground and held to a precision tollerance. If it has a slight interference fit but just not tight enough you could put cylindrical locking compound on the race before you install it. Clean the hub really well with solvent, let it dry really well then use the bonding compound from loc-tite for cylindrical parts, your situation is exactly what it's designed for. Just wipe off any on the bearing surface itself. It wiill bond the race to the hub. Or replace the hub if it's really loose.

it's all about the green loctite.... :wink1: love that stuff....

No matter how precisely something is measured if you put it in the wrong box it'll still be wrong.:doah::haha:

it's a huge noticable gap for something that precise. it's probably 1/8" off! the part number from timken on the old one is i think 983, the new one is marked as the same number followed by A. so if i have the number right, it's 983A. i'm gonna see if i can salvage the old one or order the correct one or call 4wheelparts for the correct one.

we will see. hopefully i can get this thing back together by the end of next week. that is very hopeful.
