14bff straddle bearing

Which side does the pinion straddle bearing install from? What have you guys used to install it? I've already F'd one up trying to install it from the yoke side of the housing - I need to know if I was too forceful or if I'm installing from the wrong side.

Have an axle shop do it, with the proper tools.

The axle is already assembled apart from this bearing and installing the pinion.

if i understand the 3rd bearing in the housing for the pinion .

only goes 1 way if i recall in from pinion hole.

i used a bearing/race driver set to install with 4lb hammer for light but firm/forcefull hits.

drove in mine fine. but mabye cause i had the axle out and was able to spin pinion hole up to top so stright down hit.

then when near the end used old bearing to finish it off and seat in the hole.

Ok, just went out and looked in the garage and the bearing can only go in from one side, so the only valid question is what method have you used to put it in?

use the flat side on that bearing not the tappered side.

what year axle?

My 85 axle had a bearing like on the left, my 79 axle on the right.

It's not an 84-85 axle. I have the correct bearing.
