So, I want to be like everyone else.....

Seriously, I want to change to a 14bff and a Dana 44 (or stay with front 10 bolt). I've searched and looked at the tech articles, but can someone point me to the newb's starting point for this? I've never done anything like this before and even after some searching and reading, I'm not sure where to start. I need like "14bff Swap for Dumbies"

I've asked the salvage yard and they have a 14bff and a Dana 44 with 4.10 gears, but I'm not sure what other questions or concerns I need to bring up? Do they need to be from the same year (91) as my vehicle? I'm not going to swap to disc, so will I need to do anything other than move the spring perches? Seems pretty easy on the rear, right?

Anyway, I know it's been asked several times, so pointing me in the right direction is very helpful.

Thanks.

Aslong as the vehical you are getting the axles from is a 3/4 ton truck it should all bolt up but you will need a special u-joint for the rear drive shaft to macth to the 14Bff thats all. Then just bleed your brakes and cheange the fluids in the axles and drive off.

3/4 tons will bolt right in. 1 tons you have to move the spring perches
x2 you can tell the difference by the the shock tabs too, but if its a d44 its 3/4 so your good to go :waytogo:

You will need a conversion ujoint, someone else can help you out with part numbers I'm not sure what it is.

You will need 3/4 ton ubolts, and you should get ubolt plates (you dont have to, I didnt :o but should have)

Pop the diff cover at the junkyard to see what kinda shape the gears are in, govloc/open, etc.

They do not need to be from the same year.

If you do not get the 8 lug d44 then you can always convert your 6 lug to 8 lug so theyll be the same. Theres a writeup in the tech article section. But if your getting a good deal with the front end included then I'd go for it and sell the 10b to make up for some of the extra money ;)

Good luck its not too hard :D

from what ive read any truck or suburban from 73-89 will swap right in except for ff, they have perches that need to be relocated. you cant use a dually axel (rear) they are differant and dont work so well.

Thanks Guys. How do I check open carrier versus gov lock? Any images?

Because the manual trucks used a 1350 joint at both ends of the rear driveline.

huh....so im guessing that since my blazer frame has a 465/205 adn HAD a 12b by swapping in my 14ff, i DONT need a convo joint?

now im confused:( :haha: :haha:

As long as you are using the original driveline you should not. Measure to be sure.
I have never worked on a Blazer with the 465 so i can't tell you for sure 100%. I would be interested to kow what you find out though.
