on the crapper...
Where is a good (cheap) place to pick these up? I saw a kit on Northwest Fab's website for $49 per side plus shipping. That seems high. Anybody know what they go for at Auto Zone or Advanced Auto? I guess I could give them a call or drop by, but then I'd have to get up off my keester.

the time and effort it took you to make and post this thread, you could have found the info online.......right? :D. I dont remember what I paid. I like your keester idea myself. :haha:

Just depends if you get the good brand name or their cheapies, the premium ones aren't cheap though...

Odds of 1 Autozone having all these parts on the shelf: 50-50
at least if your autozones are anything like mine... seems like every time I bought bearings, had to run across town to the other one

No kidding! You forgot sales tax, and will Vatozone deliver to your door?

That is a good point. But there are at least 3 Auto Zones in town, so I have an 87.5% chance of success with the Auto Zone shuffle.

Forgot about that durn tax again! Tax brings the total up to $99.56 which is about even with the ebay guys. I gotta get in the Zone anyway for discs and pads, so I'll give them a chance. Otherwise I'll go the ebay route. Not in any particular hurry, but it is nice to be able to touch, taste, and smell the parts the same day you buy them.

If an auto store don't have it they can get it next day. I replaced a lot of seals on my 14BFF swap. Got the good Fereal Mogal brand and I think for seals it was like $12 or $14 a peice... but worth it!

Well what do you know. I went to one Auto Zone and came home with this:

Doesn't look like much, but now I am $175.17 further in debt!

Prices were as listed in my post above, plus $23.99 per disc, $14.99 for pads plus assorted brake cleaner, brake lube, and that dreaded sales tax.

It is always fun to walk into an auto parts store and ask for:

Rear Wheel Bearings and Seals for a '78 C20
Front Rotors for a '75 K20
And front brake pads for a '89 K5

Then I had to convince the guy that the wheel bearings were the correct parts - he thought they were too big to be wheel bearings!

Todays auto parts srores have idiots working there. Has been that way for a long time. The old school auto parts store where the guys knew what you were talking about without having to look at a catalog are few and far between.

Same with hardware stores. There is 2 auto parts store in my area that is old school, you can find parts for old cars and trucks there. Also the guys know their stuff. Not only are they auto parts guys but Mechanics too. they wont be around for much longer though. not enough bussiness with all the new cars out there.

One place has the best Dorman stock around. They were the only place I could find wheel studs for my disc conversion. I wanted new wheel studs.

i go 2 my local industrial bearing supply house and have them look up and cross reference my old bearings and races for the correct bearing, in the extreme duty line of timkens!
