All,

My toyota friends and jeep friends dont think I have enought metal when I welded up my spiders. Let me know what you think. I did it like kidjethro..

that oughta work. I put a little more than that into them though. I usually try to fill ever nook and cranny I can.

My buddy welded the whole thing so it looked like a softball, then grinded everything smooth. The whole process took him about an hour :eek1:

I might do a little filler work then. But I made several passes. I used 6011 rod, so its a hardened rod. I think it should work but I guess I'll fill a little more. anyone else??

ask emetology101.. they were his spiders, but most of that is slag, that I still have to clean up. and burnt 80-90

ah very good, id try and fill it up some more.

just my .02, but if the weld breaks id bet you're screwed, so filler up

Allright will do. I figured Id get some full size advise before I take advise from a j**pr

You did several passes?? Looks like just tacks to me:confused:

Fill it all in with good beads........please:D

Theres only like 2 teeth tacked......sure you have the right picture up?

So what all of you are saying is to do this.. and do not even pay attention to the way Kidjethro did it.

The teeth are filled/blended together. I guess its just a bad pic, I'll take another one later.

Does anyone have any pics besides the jethro ones... So I can compare

This is my old Gov Bomb after MNorby hit it with his Miller for about an hour :D He did the same thing for my 10 bolt, and my 70, and my 60..... I owe him a spool of wire and a 12 pack of beer :)

Ok... so the whole idea is to increase the weight of your rear axle by about 5 lbs..lol

I'll take a better pic tomorrow(camera is charging), I guess the pic is bad because I didn't take the slag hammer to it yet, so what looks like rust/teeth is actually a weld.

No, the idea is to penetrate well into the metal all around the teeth of the gears where they touch. If you have teeth interlocked that are not welded, then you should weld them... Lay a clean bead, and then clean it up more when you are done.

I understand that the teeth need to be welded pretty good, and I think they are, Its just my picture doesn't do it justice.

See where the spider gears touch the side gears? You have AIR gaps between the gear teeth there still, and it appears that only the outer teeth of the spider gears are welded at all. You want to see solid steel anywhere the the spider gear teeth even come close to the side gear teeth. :)
