Mine are 2.5 inches long with half an inch sticking out of the back of the flange.

Mine are 2.5" long as well. I put a lock washer and a nut on the back side, along with lock-tight on everything too keep it from comming loose. Bolts don't like to stay on my truck /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
