Is there a difference between a 14bolt ff dually & reg. axle? /forums/images/icons/confused.gif I am finding mass 14bolt ff duallies everywhere only a few regular 14bolt ff. /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif
I've done a search and came with nutin. /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

Spring pads and shock mounts are NOT the only difference between dually 14bolt's and single rear wheel 14bolt's. The dually 14b's ARE narrower. I was just looking at one today. They have to be narrower to offset the extra length of the added tire. They are quite a bit narrower. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif /forums/images/icons/grin.gif /forums/images/icons/wink.gif /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I guess I am wrong then. But if they are narrower, why add the fenders. If you have compared them Ill take your word for it. I thought the only difference was the pads and brackets.

The dually rears that were under a truck with a regular bed and wider fenders used the D70 axle, which is wider than any axle, including the front.

14FF dually axles are narrower, but these are under the cab-and-chassis model trucks. These are basically made and sold as a truck with no bed. They are meant for utility boxes, flat beds, etc.

My dads dually has a 14 under it. Its a late 70s.

My buds 2wd 89 excab dually had a 70 under it and yeah it was wider by quite a bit. We were told that they narrowed them in 90 or so. We discovered the extra width when we dropped it 7 in. in the rear. The tires didnt quite fit in the fenders anymore. /forums/images/icons/blush.gif

BTW Wes, I have access to a 70 rear, I was thinking about snagging it for a better gear selection than a 14. Whats it worth? Or should I stay w/ the 14 that I already have?

Yo dude, I didn't mean to come off so...cocky. lol...Sorry 'bout that. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif /forums/images/icons/smirk.gif /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

No problem. I hate to be wrong, /forums/images/icons/blush.gif but when I am I will nut up and admit it. I really didnt think that was harsh. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

And the dually D70 rear is in the ballpark of 75". /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Steve, depends on if this D70 is the wide dually axle. They have a WMS to WMS of around 75". /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif This would make the rear tires flare way out more than the front axle. /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Unless you can get spacers for the front axle to flare the tires out to match the D70, I would stick with the 14FF. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I was at Pick a Part in Newark last Saturday and found a couple 14"s.

Im looking for one with disks... so I'll have less to chase down. I saw at least 3 on chevy pickups......

How far you want to drive?
