To find a suitable 14 bolt rear end,to replace my 10 bolt on a 1978 K5 what is the best vehicle to look for to take one off of. Putting Gear ratio aside. I have heard that 3/4 ton vans have a wider axle than 3/4 ton trucks, is this right?? Would that put it as wide as my front??

Any comments would be great.

you want a 14 bolt FF from a 3/4 ton. that way you won't have to move the spring perches. then you can convert your front axle to 8 lug. it will be in pre 80 trucks. someone will know the exact years they were in.

Yep, on van or 1 ton rear ends, you'll have to move the spring perches and shock mounts.
