I was looking at a 14bsf rear 6 lug axle and was wondering a few things. I have 6 lug Mickey thompson classics on and wanted to be sure they would fit in the 14bsf 6 lug axle? also can I convert a 8 lug 14bsf to a 6 lug by just using different shafts? any info would be great. thanks

They will

No, on full floating axles the studs are in the hub and not on the shaft.

You can make a 14 bolt semi floater 8 lug a six lug with six lug 14 bolt semi floating axles off a K2500 pickup ( 88 and newer ) , and some Suburbans ( 92 and newer ) .

You can make a 14 bolt semi floater 8 lug a five lug with 14 bolt semi floating axles off a 454 SS pickup .

But you cannot make axles from a Full Floater fit a Semi floater , or vice versa .

Sorry, I misread your question. As Paul said, you should be able to interchange any SF 14 bolts shafts (just make sure they are the same length).

so if i wanted to retain my 6 lug rims and wheels i can go ahead and get a 14bsf out of a 90 burb and just swap in some 6 lug shafts? that was what i was hoping for but the length issue is what concerned me. Wasnt sure if the lengths are the same or not.

My opinion is to just hold out and find the right 6 lug 14SF.

Problem then of course is the 14MM lugs, can't seem to find any replacements that match the fronts. They fit, but then you end up with two different size lug nuts.

I guess you cant just replace the studs with the right size to match the front ehh. maybe drill out and put the larger ones in.

I run a 14bsf rear, and I use the 14mm studs there and the 7/16 studs up front. My stock wheels fit the 14mm studs fine.

Yes, you have different lug nuts front & rear. BFD. They are both 3/4" hex, so it isn't like it is some major (or even minor) issue...

how about the ebrake. does it go right back into the same holders for the cables or are there mods there aswell if i pick up a stock 6lug 14bsf. also does the 14bsf use the 1350 ujoint? I know ill have to redo the perches and shock mounts but are the widths the same as the stock axle in my k5?

Yup, the cables work fine. Also, yes it uses a 1350 u-jount. If you need something different you can either replace the yoke or simply use a conversion u-jount.

The 6-lug I got was only about an inch wider overall tham by stock 10b, IIRC. There are different widths, so watch out. You only need to move perches if you get a 6 lug axle from a NBS truck. The 8-luggers from the 87-down 3/4 tons should bolt right up.

That must depend on the lug nuts then, I've got factory open lug nuts front and rear, and the 14SF lugs are not 3/4, 17MM, or 19MM, while the fronts are indeed 3/4. Too late for me to go get the actual size. It's a minor annoyance yes, but one nonetheless.

You could drill the fronts, but thats another hassle if you need to replace front rotors at an inconvenient time.

Well, I suppose I forgot to mention that I bought new lug nuts from Discount Tire. They are closed-end acorn nuts with 3/4" hex. You're right - the stock nuts will be different sizes.

I have Mickey Thompson Classic II rims on a 6-lug 14B s/f. It was an 8-lug that I converted to 6-lug with new shafts and a disc brake conversion. I use the regular 3/4-ton wheel studs in the back and stock 1/2-ton studs up front. I've never had a problem with the two different sizes.

It's up to you if you want to start with an 8-lug that bolts into the truck or start with a 6-lug that needs the spring mounts moved but doesn't need any work on the brakes.

In my case, the cost to do the disc brake conversion was cheaper than a new set of drums and this gave me the flexibility for whatever length axle shafts I could find. No e-brake, though - that drives the cost up.

nice. thanks for the post. Seems like either way will be some work. I wouldnt mind the disc brakes but not sure if I can deal with the e brake loss.
