since the search is not working and I am a moron who go in a hurry, I did not check the backlash before I pulled the carrier, I did how ever count the # of turns on the adjuster nuts, so now that I am ready to put it back together I can't get the adjuster nuts spun back to where they were, they are both a turn short if I get one side to where it was the pinion gets REAL hard to turn. Hope that made since, does anyone have the spec for backlash handy? it is for used bearings and gears if that makes a difference.

also Does anyone have the torque for the yoke on a D44hd?

yes it is a used set,

How is a person to reach 255 ft/lbs with out the use of a large torque wrench

a lot of gear sets have the optimum backlash engraved on the OD of the ring gear too. My Precision gears for my 14bff called for .008" of BL when I set them up. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Thanks guys, I guess I have a excuse to go buy a bigger torque wrench /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

If its used you dont want to set the backlash at .008, too tight, it might make noise.

I would set at .015 or so and check the pattern, and just go from there.
