the 5.13 gears are great except for some whining under deceleration due to probable non-spec pinion bearing preload. the axle is dripping fluid from the splines of the pinion around the nut {note: not the seal} and im thinking its because the nut isnt tight enough not letting the thrust washer stop the oil which would also affect said bearing preload... thoughts?

as for my brakes, I installed this fancy new MC that muddybuddy had installed in his k5, on his all he had to do was mount it up and roll on... on mine I lost 2/3 to 3/4 of my original pedal stroke and the pedal is firm as $hit, so firm I dont think I could realy slam them if I wanted to making braking a tad scetchy at the moment, however it is still very managable, and I do also have around 1000 lbs in the bed of my truck. the brakes also dont seem to be letting go quite as fast as they used to. im still running the stock ifs brakes up front at the moment... hoping this will be cured when i swap the 10blt front in... thoughts?

Are you running disc in the rear? If not that is why your peddle is way hard you are trying to push more fluid than the small ass wheel cylinders can take. The MC he posted is for a 4wheel disc conversion.

And fix the gear setup before you drive it anymore. No need in destroying a new set of gears due to lazyness.

fixed my whining issues today at work, the pinion bearings effectivly had no preload :eek1:

my truck stoped better before... i now have a MUCH firmer pedal but just doesnt seem to have the stoping power, also made the discovery today that the years this axle spent over grown in a guys yard has taken a tole on the pass side wheel seal surface:doah:

hes currently still got ifs, and then going wiht a d44, i think the issue is that hes not running the monster d60 calipers

did you get the leak on the splines fixed? I think you are supposed to use rtv behind the pinion nut.
