No you don't need to re-do backlash, but you are "supposed too do pinion preload again along with a new crush sleve, but people have done it by marking the threads on the pinion nut and counting turns to make sure to put it back exactly where it was before with some locktite /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif
