so the point of a FF instead of a SF is you can change a broken axle on the trail.well if it's broken how do you get whats left in the housing out???roll the truck on its side and let gravity do it?use a long stick with a magnet on it?:haha: REALLY what do you do? thanks.i have a line on another 14 and was just wondering.

The point of a full floating axle is to let the spindle take the weight of the truck/load rather than the axle shaft itself. Full floating axles are primarily used to increase load capacity, but they are generally heavier duty all around compared to semi floating designs.

In any case, a magnet will get a broken shaft out. Getting a broken shaft out will be the same for a SF or FF axle (except that the SF may have c-clips that have to be removed).

The big difference is if you break a SF shaft the tire can come off the truck since it is only connected to the axleshaft. 14bff shafts don't break :D and if they do the shaft just breaks the tire stays in place.

To remove a 14bff axleshaft you unbolt the bolts that hold the axle in and pull the shaft out. If it exploded (rears often do) then you fish out the shards with a extending magnet and fish out the broken piece in the carrier the same way. On a rear axle you often have to drop the cover too to get the broken piece in the carrier to unlodge it.

SF shaft you need to remove the tire and you HAVE to drop the cover to remove the C clip that holds the axle in place. Then you have to clean the axle for shard also.

You need a long extending magnet either way. The 14bff is much less likely to break and axle replacement is easier if you do.
