Anyone know a source for the 14 bolt wheel bearing retainer nut spanner socket? I haven't really been able to find anything in a quick search this morning.

Depending on the year of the 14ff it is the same as a D60. I bought mine at work from our car quest store. Try Napa also.
i had to modify a socket to fit i had. it was square teeth and the nut was round teeth. took file to edges and bam worked great.
Thats good info... took my hubs off yesterday and started a disc brake swap and my girlfriends dad asked me if I wanted him to make me a tool for the retaining nuts. So we made up a really nice one on his CNC mill. We made the nubs round to fit the nut perfectly so they won't be prone to slipping like cheap flat ones on my D44/10 bolt socket I got at the parts store. Was after dark when we got it done but I ran out and tested it anyway and it looks like its gonna work great.
But woke up curious this morning if anyone even made them though.
Now I need to look up the bearing torque specs too though and run into town for some axleshaft gaskets...

50 ft lbs with hub moving . and black rtv sealent.
Don't leave it at 50lbs. or you'll be buying a new hub and possibly axle when the bearing seizes up on you.

never had a problem yet and i fix them all the time. that spec has been gotten from lots of shop books and gm book. but most of the time you need to back it off just a bit to line up the keyway.

4X4high is correct. In the torque table it does say torque to 50 T LBS, However there are notations the have to be read as well. The factory 1978 GM manual, my haynes, and chilton all have a "**" notation that states Back-off nut and retighten to 35 FT. Lbs. then, back-off nut 1/4 turn.
If left at 50 you will prematurely wear the bearings out. Not to mention overheat the hell out of the hub and spindle.
