i dont hear much about guys running d60's in the rear and i was wondering are they hard to find or just not popular?

i need a rear axle and found a d60 that matches the gears for my front and it has a decent price on it.

worth it or should i look for a 14b?

This won't be a fair comparison between the two axles. A 14FF is more comparable to the D70 as the D60 is slightly smaller in everything. The D70 is very close to size, strength, etc., to the 14FF.

so how strong are they? im looking at a fully rebuilt on for 200 bucks with 456 gears and i was wondering with a detroit and 35s and lots of torque will it be able to handle all that?

Don't know if the spring pads will work, or shocks and whatever.
14's are cheap, and 3/4 ton models will bolt in

The ring and pinion in a 14 ff are much stronger than in a D60.
Thats one of the reasons finding a D60 out back is rare.

One of the guys I wheel/bog with had a D60 in the rear of his 78 F250. Broke it a few times (ring and pinion, shafts). Put a 14BFF in and hasn't had any problems. He's running a built 460/C6/205 with 40" TSL's.

does it already have the detroit? if it does, i'd get it. if not, i'd just find a 14 bolt. detroits for the 14 are cheaper.

the shafts are the same size as a D44 front axle on the 60 rear..
