I know there is a year break for the 14FF where the brake drums and hubs change but is there any difference from 1973-2005 as far as internals? Are all gm 10.5" rear axles 30 spline 2 piece carriers? I got a line on a 2002 10.5" that I am looking at for parts and I have a 1987 10.5" Will the internal parts interchange?

Thanks

Ira

I think they are interchangeable up to the 11.5 ring gear in the HD2500 which started in 2001. not 100% sure, so maybe someone else with more direct experience can tell us both?

i have heard up to like 87-88 for internals. but as always dont on info 100%. i have a gov bom in my dd that was from 97or98 truck. then put in to 70's axle and now back in 96 axle. all times worked fine no problems. and as for covers i have a 73-up to split cover on my 96 no problems or leaks. :wink1:

had a 2500hd in the shop, with a 10.5 inch ring gear (think it was a 2002) had AAM cast into the housing. but it didnt have the bolt on pinion housing. was like a standard rear. was full floater too. with disc brakes.

i have an 01 HD2500 in the driveway, I'll look tommorow when its light out and see what i can see

From what I've heard, the 2000 and up 14 bolts lose their pinion support bearing and instead use larger bearings like a Dana 70. Not sure about carriers.

The gear set I am looking at is out of a 2002 yukon with the 8.1. I just need to know if these will fit into the 14FF we all know and love. The guy said it had a removable pinion housing. It is a 4.56 and up carrier.

Here are some pics of what I am looking at getting.

Looks like the right stuff to me. of course that is what it "looks" like. your info says your are building your 14bltff, so can you take your carrier out an Mic. it for comparison to the one you will buy, the pictures sure look like the right units.
BTW, my 2001 HD 2500 Looks from the outside identical to my 78 14blt FF housing. of course it is disks and the stronger rib design, but it deffinetly has a removeable pinion housing.

Cool thanks. I wish I could have found one of those 2001 14FF already disced and has integral drum parking brake. That is pimp. :D
I already have 2 carriers in my garage. I have a gov-loc with 3.73 and an open 4.10 and down carrier with 4.10s. I have a set of 37s to put on and I am really not to excited about running 37s with 4.10s and the price is pretty sweet on the setup I am looking at. A lot cheaper than just buying the thick set of 4.56s. I really want 5.13s but cannot afford them yet.
