I have tried to search for specific answer relating to 15" vs 17" backspace fitment in forums. in Have a 1989 GMC Jimmy GM 10 bolt with 15"x8" with 3.75" backspace and 1/4-3/8 space between rim and Tie rods. I am looking for a 17"x 8" 3.75 backspace rim. I have read many posts of guys using 4-4.5" back spacing? How is this possible with a 15" or are they using larger 16 17 or 18" rims are there different specs on D44 vs GM10 bolt Disc wheel mount to tie rod end distance?
If I move up to a 17" rim will a 4.5" 0r 4.75" back space work?
Not too many options for 17" or 18" (simple style) rims with less than 4.5" back space at least classic 8 hole or slotted mag style.
If this has been answered already sorry I haven't found yet
Thanks

As you noted 15" with 3.75" backspace is too close but if you go bigger diameter then the wheel gets further out and clears the arms and tie rod

iceman
any idea if 4.5" Backspace would work with a 17" rim
or do you know what the max backspace is for a 17"
Thanks for your help

I have 17s on a d44 axle. I can shoot some pics and post some specs here in a few minutes

I have ran h1 wheels with a 2in spacer on a 10 bolt. thats 16.5x9" with 7" back space - 2" spacer makes 5" back space.

I have also ran Method 105s 17x8.5 with 4.75 BS

People run H2 wheels all the time. 17x8.5 with 5.5 BS.

That was the info I needed Thank You 17"s seems like a good option
Would you recommend Nitto over Toyo? I'm gonna run 285/70/17
Building Jimmy for California desert/mountain off road and Freeway to get those locations. No Rock Crawl or deep mud
It's a HD stock Hunting rig

17's are the new 15"s. they are the standard size now days, more and cheaper tire options really.

I have 285/75/17 Toyo open country A/T2 on my daily dodge. They have been great tires, no balance issues, wear great, tons of traction, and tough as nails. I don't think you will have any issues with Nitto or Toyos. They are pretty much the gold standard of tires.

Toyo owns Nitto IIRC, so it's 6 of one 1/2 dozen of the other
I've heard good and bad on both, but I'll be buying Nittos when these wear out.

And Nitto sponsors King of the Hammers

17x8 Black Rock rims on my suburban, leaves lots of room for the Hummer H3 brakes...............
