151,000 miles?

i found a 98 K2500 sierra with a 5.7L that caught my eye. i havent seen the truck in person, but from talkin to the guy who's selling it, it sounds like its in real good shape (yea, i know, i took what he said with a grain of salt). it's not a 6.5TD like i wanted, but it looks nice and its there, and i can afford it, not to mention it gets about the same mileage as my yukon, so im not too upset about that. i know the towing power isnt gonna be marvelous, but i can afford it, and the drivetrain is better set up than the yukon, so im interested.

anyway, heres the kicker - its got 151,000 miles. the guy i spoke with says it runs like the day he bought it, burns no oil, everything's in good shape. they're askin $10k for it, and im pretty sure i could get close to that with a trade-in for the yukon. any thoughts on this?

what tranny and t-case would this thing have? im guessing 4L80E and some kinda BW t-case? 14 bolt FF rear end?

likely SF rear. I've had 2 2500s, both HD 2500s(95 and 97, 97 being 2wd) and they both had 14 bolt semi floaters. 4l80E is likely the transmission and with a Vortec 350 in front of it a very good combination. TBI 350s are dogged down by the 4l80E. I'd take a really close look at it and find out if major service work as been done. Vortec motors are known for 2 problems. Intake gaskets going bad, and head gaskets going bad. At 151,000 miles its likely that has already been done. My 97 has just over 100,000 and the intake gasket just went, lucky for me it is not leaking into the block just out the front a little bit so I can drive till I get my Sub running and can afford the down time.

Just to ad that the T case should be a NP241. I think that 10K sounds a bit high for that truck with that mileage. I would also expect the fuel mileage to be a bit lower than your Yukon, mostly due to the extra weight of the truck.

The HD 2500 has a sf14 bolt with 8 lugs 4l80e tranny the regulat 2500 has a 6bolt pattern, and 10 grand sounds high with that mileage.

my uncle has a 92 K2500 5.7TBI/4L80E/14SF 3.73s. i used it to town my buddy's Firebird back from Lafayette a few months back, pulled real nice and had plenty of power. we averaged 14mph in D on the way back. i've been watching for a K2500 to replace my K1500, just havent found the right one yet.

i dont think im following your little joke.

the trailer i was pulling was 3000# by itself + 4000# of car, add in all the stuff we crammed into the car, and the load that was on the back of the truck, 14mpg isnt so bad for a gas engine that would pull 85 mph without batting an eye.

14mpg is pretty damn good, I don't get that good of mileage towing my jeep with my 98 Z71.

Hell, my 90 K1500 stepside averaged 14mpg not towing anything.
