I found a used motor I would like to purchase but it has no flywheel. I have never had to purchase a flywheel, all the motors I have swapped have always had this already bolted up.

I cannot seem to figure out the different applications of the 153 and 168 tooth flexplates. Anybody have good information on this? Is one stock and the other a larger diameter version for a high compression motor? I'm really looking to find out what size would bolt up to a '83 SB.

Any help would be appreciated

Either size will bolt to the engine. The size of the flexplate determines which starter you use or vise versa. All the trucks i've ever seen use the 168 tooth and cars came either way but mostly 153. Also depending on the year of gthe engine will determine which year flexplate you need. 1955-1985 use one flexplate while 1986 and newer use a different flexplate. The bolt pattern for the crank was 3.48" from 1955-1985 and 3" from 1986 and later.

What type of tranny you got ? There's a big difference between a flexplate and flywheel. ( flexplate=Auto Tranny, flywheel=Manual tranny )

Using a auto, need a flexplate. Great info, thanks for the help.
