I picked up this 16' 10k trailer from a buddy of mine and since it was in such good shape and didn't need anything mechanical I decided to spend my gas money from our Memorial Day trip gone wrong on cosmetic stuff I otherwise wouldn't normally do.

Started this morning bright and early by stripping off the old deck...

Took it over to a friend's house who has a sprayer and mixed up some Rustoleum Gloss Black and put down a couple coats...

Got some good pics with my regular camera (I only had my cell phone over at his house)...

Before I tore it apart I used it to go pick up new deck material late last night...

treated or are you going to seal them before install?
nice project, wouldn't mind having a backup plan like that sitting around myself

I bought untreated since pressure treated was about 3x as much. I have a friend that builds and modifies trailers and he doesn't use anything. He has been doing it for years and he said all the decks seem to last about 5 years so a while back he started going cheap and hasn't looked back.
I have a sprayer so I'll put a quick coat of sealer on once I get them cut and make sure they all fit nice and tight then call it good.

I picked up some stainless steel self tappers tonight so I should have it all back together tomorrow night.

So far I have about $150 into wood, $30 in paint and about $30 in hardware. So I think it'll be a nice makeover for about $200.

We run them tight so when the wood shrinks up it'll have small gaps. Otherwise the gaps will be huge.

Got more work done this afternoon...

I cut the deck and laid it all out then marked the boards and pulled it apart and set it up in the front yard to seal it then put it all back together.
Tomorrow morning I'll screw it down and besides the box be done.

Got up bright and early this morning and wrapped it up. I think it turned out pretty nice.

I'm off to the tire shop to get my spare swapped with the matching rim so all 4 on the trailer match. Then I'm taking it out to where I store it. I'm glad to see this thing going! :)

Just curious. how is your tool box attached to the frame? Some big U bolts? Able to keep it water proof from underspray. I am going to add a box to my trailer and just curious.

I would add a cap of some kind where the boards meet at the dovetail so things don't catch and split the wood there. Looks good, any plans for a winch on it? I've had 3000lb. winches on the last two trailers I had and stepped up to an 8000lb. Smittybuilt on the one I have now, but I tow cars fairly often.

It's just four bolts going through the bottom of the box into the top of the C channel frame of the trailer. I wouldn't put anything in there that couldn't get a little wet but it'll keep most of the weather out.

I thought about that and might add one down the road but for now I was tired of working on this trailer and am out of money so it'll have to wait.
Yes a winch is on the list of stuff to add but heck I don't even have a winch on my wheeler yet so getting one for my trailer will have to be way down the road.

Ditto on the 8000lb smittybuilt winch I have one on my 16foot wood deck trailer and I use it 5 times a month if not more I do alot of towing as well and I do a lot of junk cars wear the wheels are sometimes locked up and this winch has gotten me out of pinch after pinch it's the best 300 bucks I ever spent
Winchdepot.com and I got free shipping to my door.
