16.5 / 6 lug Steel Wheels Wanted

Thanks for the heads up on the listing, I am close to Baytown, we'll see what he has?

I had a set set of alum 16.5 x 10 x 6 lug on a K5 in the mid-70's. Back in the day if you wanted meats on your 4x, you used industrial, off-road 16.5's, even 12x15's were few and far between. Most Cepek's "high floatation" tires were 11 x 15! (that was huge) The 4x pass time has come a long way. We had our local spring shop heat & re-arc our springs to create lift, or we just added air shocks and pumped them up to get enough clearence for the really big stuff....35 x 14.5 x 15, lol... practically tractor tires 30 years ago! and the biggest hwy rated tires on the market.

There is a guy on the board running HMMV 37 x 16.5 on some 9.75 wide steel wagon wheels: http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=243275

I like that set up.

Thanks

Your welcome,

I think I'm looking at a 2" lift, fender cuts and HMMV 37's. so....the search is on for tolerable used 16.5 steelies.

Are your 37's the radial run flat, Gov NOS?

Thanks

My tires are HMMV 37" radials, but they don't use runflats with these wheels. The only other thing I noticed was I still rub the inner fender at full stuff with the front wheels turned. Moving the axle forward an inch would more than fix that problem though.

The guy in Baytown has aluminum wheels for sale, not want I want for an m1009. He did say they were new.

The lugs on the 36 bias "appear" to be more agressive than the 37's?....are they? Of course the radial 37's have much better manners on the street.

These tires are a serious bargin at this time, Gov paid $385 per ea for them, and they are everywhere for $20-$40 bucks a tire, with 50-75% thread still showing. I found a set of 36's, now I need to find some wheels. I'm planning on adding tubes, just to keep from having slow leaks while it sits out on the deer lease, or in the drive way.

The 36" tires are better offroad than the 37" ones. The 37's are much better on the road though. You will never be able to balance the 36" tires completely.

I'm not a member of that forum...so, it will not allow me to enter the forum site??? If you could pass my email to the guy I would appreciate it.

Thanks
