16.5\" Rims with Safety Beads?

<a target="_blank" href=http://www.tennessee4x4.com/toyota/16_5_rims_and_safety_beads.htm>Defeating the Myth</a>

Maybe I was just being a newbie, but this was news to me. Not that a 16.5"x7" wheel opens up much for tire options anyway though...

Yeah, I got a set of those with 35's on em. The size is actually 16.5 x 6.75. I also have a few bare rims in the back yard...this came up a couple of weeks ago so I went and had a better look and sure enough there is a safety lip on em.

I have heard this before... I just picked up a set of swampers that are 16.5 and am kinda uneasy on the whole deal... Luckily I don't air down too much..I still have to wonder why you have lots of tires and not much for rim's to choose from with 16.5's, but not much tire selection and lots of rim selection with 16's... what a scam /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

thats cool, but why would anyone want big ol rims? Steelies are already heavy... I'd rather have 15s.

I went with the larger wheel/rim because a bigger tire will get too much sidewall flex (rotational flex?) which also contributes to axle wrap.
