Who is running 16.5 tires still? I am looking for some input since now BFG no longer makes mud terrains in a 35x16.5 tire. I ran a set of Swamper SSR radials 37x12.50r16.5 and they rode like **** and wore as fast as I thought they would. Are The TrXus mud terrains any better? I have also been looking at Parnelli Jones dirt grips as well as Goodyear hummer radials. I am leary buying used tires esp. mail order. I have great wheels (Welds) so I really don't want to spend any more money on them. I do drive mostly on the street but want to go play in the mud sometimes and an all terrain is not going to make it. Any ideas? Thanks

I still run 16.5" wheels (h1's) interco is about all that is left with any kind of selection. Do your self a favor and skip the hummer tires, I have never heard any positive things about them

I am running hummer wheels and tires. They have done great. I have no problems with them other than they are too small.

Im runnin 38x15.5x16.5's TSL/Radials on my K20. I had 35x14.5 SSR's on it before and like you said they rode like crap, wore extremely fast, and were generally a nuisance. I am impressed with the tsl/radials though. The SSR's were bald in 20k miles. The radials are at ~18k now and still have over half tread. ALOT quieter, no vibrations until you are runnin 80+, and seem to have better wet weather traction.

I run 16.5's on my K5. I agree with the skip the Hummer tires comment. I've got a set on right now. For daily driving...they are fine. But any kind of wheeling...they suck compared to an actuall off road tire. About the only thing they have going for them is the cheap price.

give it some time and the army MT/R's and BAJA's along with the Marine Corp SWAMPER's will all start showing up on the internet........just going to take a while......they are rare to find in the states right now cause of the war but once we reduce size and pull alot of troops out you will see them show up on the net.......

which tires are you running - the 36.5" bias or 37" radials?

Marine Corp Swampers? Any pics???? Sounds exciting....

36.5" bias. I have yet to try the 37's. My next set of tires will be a set of 40" Boggers, so unless I come across some 37's real cheap...I probably won't even consider them. I'm not to impressed with the 36's.

I'm running 37" TSL Radials and they ride great, better than my old MT/R's. if you do a lot of street and occasional mud, why not get 2 sets of tires? I see a lot of used wheel tire combos out there. get a nice set of all-terrains for your weld wheels, then get some beater wheels & mudders for wheelin

That's surprising, you don't hear many people talk about those being good on the highway. You don't have any balancing are flat spot issues with them?

I don't have any issues with flat spots. If I let the truck sit awhile the first few blocks are a little bumpy. Once the tires warm up they're fine. I haven't ever had them ballanced. Even swapped the rims on them. I don't think they run that true...it's just the K5 doesn't see more than 70mph. I like them for the highway because I do allot of towing with my K5. They seem fairly stable for having that much sidewall. But the K5 has been retired from daily driver, so the next set of tires it gets will be an off-road only tread.

Im running 39.5 TSL on 16.5 wheels. im not seeing the wear problem on my SSR's b/c my truck has been broke since i put them on:haha:

ive seen very few pictures but ive had some buddies that were telling me about them, ive also seen them for sale in the large "lots" of tires you can get off the government websites forsale, like maybe 1 in 300 tires......

for those that cant see it..........

The MEU purchased Super Swamper tires in response to after action reports
that stated Super Swampers were better on the Afghan terrain. A problem presented itself when it was discovered that the tires could only be mounted on HMMWVs that had heavy duty (HD) springs and shocks. This was due to the tire being larger than the standard HMMWV tires (37-inch Wranglers vice 38-inch Super Swampers). However, once the tires were installed they performed brilliantly on the terrain; offering a smoother ride and better handling. Furthermore, the tires proved more durable and punctured less on the sidewalls due to 10-ply rubber vice 3-ply. Throughout the course of conducting operations, tires became a big problem for both LAVs and HMMWVs. After a month of continuous operations, LAR expended 18 tires from the Class IX block and required at least eight more to make them combat effective. Currently, almost every LAV tire needs to be replaced. Rebuilding tires can be time consuming, which can negatively impact the maneuver units during sustained combat operations. LAR was not able to rebuild them in the field due to safety concerns, so we had to send LAV maintenance personnel all the way back to Kandahar. Also it should be noted that although run-flats take a long time to install they are absolutely essential for operating on this terrain.

Recommendation: Each vehicle needs one full spare tire regardless of Goodyear or Super Swamper. Ensure that all vehicles get the heavy-duty springs and shocks installed prior to installing Super Swampers, or else they will not fit and do more harm then good. LAVs could use a stronger tire like the Super Swamper that will fit their vehicle in this terrain. Also, it would benefit the BLT to have Marines from the MSSG who are trained in building LAV tires so that when tires come in, they can be built in an efficient and safe manner.

FLAT OUT.......SUPER SWAMPERS ARE BATTLE TESTED AND MARINE CORPS APPROVED.........TALK CRAP ABOUT THEM NOW HAHAHAHA........

i bought 2 years ago 5... 37-12.5-16.5s from a military auction, they look like a ssr but say tsl radial....the tires are 10 ply... i was told that the military bought em for the hummers for the sand and there are very few sets left around, i havent seen em since....i duno tho if i was told that from someone thats full of it..if you know what i mean....it was 5 in a stack, bundled up in plastic. all for 300 plus the 25 in gas to go get em....they fit perfect on my hurricanes

yeh I was watching a couple diff auctions of SSR's a couple yrs ago, in Mississippi IIRC, they went too high so I didnt buy em, but they had em. Oh and rob_h, the SSR's say TSL radial on em, visible differences are the sidewall design and the siping in the center tread.

herea a pic of the tread

the best i got, each tread in the center is out lined like an ssr,,

once they completely replace the Goodyear "Double V's" more will start showing up, they are alot better tire than the others cause they are 10 ply.....
