Ok, I've decided I'm going to run surplus H1 tires. I already have 3, and I know where I can get a few more for cheap, if not free. I just have to come up with wheels. I've searched around and all I can find is the procomp 16.5x9.75 for about $90 a wheel. I don't have anything against these, I was just wondering if there are any better options out there.

6 lug 16.50x10

On thing about the 16.5 rims (others plese confirm) the air presure is what keeps the tire on. So if you air down the tires may come off the rim.

Also old school huricane rims are 16.5. Some times you can find a set cheap compared to newer rims.

I have 2 white wagon wheels 16.5" rims on 6x5.5 bolt pattern.
They are used but in very good shape, and I would sell them.

Weld racing made a TON of 16.5 wheels back in the day, and they are common on Craigslist. Finding them in 6 lug would be tougher, but could happen. In my area they are all over CL and a good deal is 200-300 bucks for a set in good shape.

this is supposedly true.. i dont air down... so only popped a bead when i hit a stump....

16.5" wheels are more likely to loose a bead than 15" or 16" wheels. That being said it isn't like you lower the pressure and they just magically pop off. I have been off roading with a bunch of people who were all running 16.5" wheels. I was the only one who lost a bead, and that is because I had a tube in the tire that was leaking. I had lowered it to 8 psi, then drove on it all day. By the time I lost a bead, I doubt it had more than 3 or 4 psi in it. That caused the rim to spin inside the tire, and ripped the valve stem off of the tube. That is the only time I have had a 16.5" wheel lose a bead.

Thanks for the input.
I'm prolly going to get the wheels from summit. $275 with shipping isnt too bad, especially when the tires are free:D

I don't plan on running low psi since I'm going to be in mud/snow most of the time.

that is me too... dont do rocks... so i never air down...:dunno:

I did rocks and never aired down, 36PSI all the way ( I had a 1300lbs engine on the front axles)
The only time I aired down to 25 PSI was on a snow wheeling trip to get floatation.
The reason for me is that I run35" tires and I will lose a lot of ground clearance if I air down.

36 psi.. good god!!! think my hawgs are at 18 normally...

if your gona wheel this rig and make offroad fun and air down he!! just get recentered h1 rims with 6 lug centers and get inner bead lock spacers.

then when you upgrade later sell the rims and get 60-75% of your money back and grab another set of stocj h1 rims and bolt on and go .

I used to run 32 in the back and 36 in the front with Xterrains and with the engine weight, my tires would wrap around rocks and not slip, but I would still have decent clearance.

You don't know what you are missing by not airing down in any terrain.....and holy cow, 36 psi! Not saying you have to, but I have yet to see any circumstance where airing doesn't help.

But back on topic, 16.5's in 6 lug are pretty rare. And while beadlocks are cool they are also expensive, H1's included if you have to put in custom centers. Considering it sounds like the OP wants 16.5 tire's because they are cheap or free it kinda' defeats the whole purpose if you start buying custom rims.

I have driven aired down trucks, and I know I am not missing anything.
I had front and rear lockers, 410lbs of torque, and never had any issues with traction, I have been up hills where most truck rolled backwards, and all I saw was sky (the Hill climb in Hollister hills), and I have been thru the Rubicon, and many other trails, never touch the skinny pedal just sit and steer.
Big diesel power makes all that happen.:waytogo:

And by the way you see I did air down on the snow to 25, the tires had a big bulge at 25PSI and had enough to float over the snow after sinking with the 36PSI

I'm giving you a heads up that these 16.5 wheels with a 6 lug pattern are VERY lucky to not be instock. When I was going to run H1 tires on my toyota I thought it would be easy to find. They were listed all over the place until I found out that no one actually had them in stock.

Infact when I finally locked down 4 the people I got them from they said that there was 8 available in the entire country according to the manufacturer...
