im getting ready to swap a ff14b and 10b 3/4 ton running gear under my k5. I want to use aluminum wheels and was wondering if 16s will clear? im thinking a 16x10 with 4" backspacing. any info would be great. if I have to grind a little thats fine I just dont like the look of larger wheels on the older rigs.

I run a 16x8 rim on my truck With a 285-75-16 tire, a 10b 3/4t front and a14b sf. When i go to 35's i'll run a 10in. wide rim. Hope this helps out. Lou

16 inch shouldn't be a problem. 15 inch wheels will clear 3/4 running gear. It's always a good to check width and backspacing.

im talking about aluminum wheels, unless youre saying 15" aluminum wheels will fit with grinding

15s will fit with some grinding. If the offset is dep, they might fit without it.

On the other hand. There are alot more choices these days in 16" tire sizes. 15s are slowly going away. 15" 8Lug wheels aren't really common. Used ones are rare, and new ones will most likely be steel and mail order.

My 16x10 eagle aluminum wheels fit with no grinding. On an 85 3/4 ton but it shouldnt matter what year.

If you dont already have wheels though, I think I would jump up to 17s. Even 16s are getting harder to find these days.

There shouldn't be any problems fitting most 16" aluminum rims on the 8-lug stuff. I've seen lots of 3/4 and 1 ton trucks running around with this setup. I have personally had a couple different sets of 16's on a D60, and though they were steel the D60 has bigger brakes than the 3/4 ton stuff.

Good luck finding a set of aluminum 15" 8-lug rims. The only ones I have ever seen were Welds and that was back in the '80's.

Steel 15" 8-lug rims are very easy to find but like most steel wheels there are not a whole lot of styles to choose from. Pull up 15" 8-lug wheels on Summit Racing and there are 45 versions pop up. 4 Wheel Parts and National Tire & Wheel also advertise them on their website, and you can order them through most tire shops.

But back to the OP, the 16's you mention should not be a problem.
