Been chasing down Chevy blazers no luck to far gone and jeep Cherokee square box box type that all the kids are lifting same problem bade frames I'm in Massachusetts son likes stuff with big lift trying to tell him how much gas they suck down butt his mind is sett

Well, my first 4X4 was a 77 Blazer. I loved it, but yeah, it did suck down the gas.

Maybe look at 1988 and up Chevy/GMC pickups.

Toyota trucks probably had better rustproofing, and I have had good luck with older toyotas, will be a bit better on mileage too. Around here people think they are made out of gold though.

Same around here the Cherokee are jumping up in price . Just finished the rear floor and cross bracing ,wheel tubs and frame repair on my 1990 suburban don't feal like doing anther big rot repair

Jeeps don't seem to fare well on the east coast. Friend of mine in WV has been trying to find a used wrangler, and unless its pretty much new, they all have rot, and in bad places like frames and such.

Just found one been seeing it every day just popped up on Craigslist one hour ago going to go look at it hope it's ok 2000 jeep Cherokee with 33" tires 6 mouths old has some problems not to bad to fix hope it's not to far gone

Lifted Cherokees have all sorts of driveline and steering issues due to geometry

Fuel injection on a Chevy is a good bet

If I had bought a decent blazer at 16 I probably wouldn't have owned like 6 other trucks getting to it. I think it's actually a decent car for a young kid. You may want to consider swapping in some newer seats with better seat belts though.

If you find a 6.2 diesel it will be incredibly slow lifted with tires, and the fuel economy won't be ridiculously awful, but not so good that your kid ever has leftover money for dope and beer.

If he is on summer vacation right now, expand your search range and make an adventure out of picking one up.

All my friends that had Cherokees when I was in high school 10 years ago had bad death wobble and they ran like crap, and that was 10 years ago...

It's common to that platform

My son has a 98 wrangler. California and Arizona car. Stock. I keep telling him to sell it east coast. It is sitting in his garage doing nothing.

Those don't even exist here anymore. All the frames have rotted out. Boxed frames and road salt do not get along.

Not sure I agree with that. Having lived all my life in the rust belt, I almost always see serious rust on older Toyotas, regardless of model. And I don't see that level of rust on all old vehicles. It's hard to make a statement applicable to all the models of any company, but I think the GM and Dodge trucks of yesteryear hold up to salt more nicely than what Toyota was offering years ago (Ford's corrosion resistance depends on which series you're talking about).

Just my opinion, there are plenty of counterexamples to any wide-spread claim.

Yeah, I have spent all my time in the southwest, so I really have never had to deal with those issues. Given the choice between an older Cherokee and older Toyota, I'd still go for the Toyota.

But a full size Chevy would be my choice above all. In fact, it was. lol.
