I'm looking for a project to flip and this 1960 'Burb came available.

I went and checked it out today and wanted to know what you guys think.

What's it worth now, and would could it be and return on investment etc...

Here are some pics:

The 1960 front is a bit unique

It has a straight 6 that will need some overhauling.

Original paint & authentic patina

Clean body lines

The 'hatchback' tailgate option

Needs some metal magic on the tailgate.
image.jpeg

All original

image.jpeg

No body damage other than the patina.
image.jpeg

It will need a headliner and a bath.
All new glass and seals come with the deal.
image.jpeg

Numbers matching, if that matters.

image.jpeg

Kewl looking body lines
image.jpeg

Original steering wheel and dash bezel.

image.jpeg

3/4 bench seat. Needs some metal on the driver side floor panelimage.jpeg

This pic is too dark but it's IFS.

original Surface rust on the frame rails. Trailing arm type rear suspension.

I don't know what kind of rear axle this is but it looks kewl.

It will come with new lenses.

What's it worth?

What's its potential?

What would you do with it?

What do you guys think?

I would clear it and get all systems working perfect and then a nice clean interior and DRIVE it. Watck the budget and you should make a profit.

Old iron is always cool
Make it mechanically safe and reliable and enjoy

Should be a 261 6, three on the tree. Same combo I have in my 57 Pontiac. Super simple, super reliable. Rear is an Eaton.

To make money on it I'd say you have to stay away from body and paint other than a good wash and potentially a coat of matte clear. The remainder is just going through the mechanicals. It would help if you could find one or both rear seats I think...

I would be all over that truck!--the '60 and '61 had the cool "eyebrow" hoods and the '60-66 Panels and Suburbans are among the most desireable GM trucks right now...hard to find any with no rust that haven't been hot rodded or modified ,they will bring decent money..

Only bummer on this one for me is the clamshell tailgate--barn door Burbs are much cooler in my opinion...but its not a deal killer by any means..(and you might be able to swap barn doors on those years,it may be a bolt on deal ?)...

That year the 2wd's had torsion bar suspension !--and everyone thinks they are a "new idea"...it likely has an Eaton rear axle,an HO-72 ..(I have a trailer made from the rear half of a '62 GMC 3/4 ton that has a 4:56 Eaton in it,with coil springs,I had to practically make new trailing arms out of angle iron--those like to crumble away up here...)

That straight six is a beefy unit,I had a 235 six in a '56 Chevy pickup and that thing had more low end torque than some of the small blocks I had ...it was no miser of fuel however--lucky to get 13 mpg...4:56 gearing probably didn't help!..they are about as bullet proof as you can get...

So what would you guys pay for this as it sits?

...and how much after I get it to go and stop?

What are they asking for it?

I'd scour ebay and CL and see what they're selling for when they run and drive and stuff.

I was going to wait until you guys pitched some numbers first.

I could pick it up for $2k.

I think that's a decent ask price, i just don't know if there is enough in that to be worth buying to fix and flip. I'd buy it because I love those old burbs, but realistically by the time it's decently clean and roadworthy you will have already spent quite a bit of time and money on it. Bagged with wide whites, ultra clean interior, and original patina is probably where the best resale money is. Even then I think you could lose money easily too...

A neighbor of mine used to flip cars for money. Always 5-10 year old japanese cars.

Yea, your right, around here (In Dallas) bagged and patina would sell but there would be no room for profit.

I couldn't bring myself to doing that to an original. Thats more like something the Gas Monkey guys would do.

Well, if any of you guys want it I can pick it up for you.

I totally agree with Rene.

If that was a 64/66 I would want it so bad...still a awesome sub but I like the 64/66 best.
It would be cool if someone on here would buy it. I would like to watch that build! :thumb:

I guess that's the other thing I keep forgetting to mention. The "eyebrow" front end (60 and 61) is very polarizing, and more people hate that front end than love it.

I can't stop thinking about this one, it's like she's calling me begging me to bring her back to life.

I see so much potential, so much sexy, junoesque, so much history.

For me it would be a pleasure to bring her back to life. But then, I don't know if I could get rid of her.

She is a rusty temptress....

I wish it was a 64-66. But none the less. It's pretty solid??
