Can anyone help me with what I need to do with the crossmember. I need to do to finish this swap to the NV4500?
Do I most likely need to get new front/rear driveshafts?
Im definitely an amateur at this but love my K5 and im trying to get it on the road!

thanks so much

Bob

I'm pretty sure the 85-91 crossmember is a direct bolt up for the gm nv4500 swap. And you should bet on shafts unless it has a 85+ trans and tcase combo in it now.

Depends on what crossmember you have now.
But likely make a 4" tall spacer and bolt it to the nv4500 adapter housing and use the OEM crossmember that came on that truck.

I have pictures of swapping an NV4500 in my Blazer thread (link). You didn't say what crossmember you're starting with, but it's probably just a matter of building a spacer like I did.

And, yes, you'd be redoing driveshafts if you're coming from a short SM465 to a long NV4500. '85+ SM465 trucks got longer adapters that made their transmission length equal to that of a TH400/700R4/4L60/NV3500/NV4500.

What are you using for a transfer case?

Hi campfire,
well its done. 2 pieces of square tube 1/12 steel stacked and made a 3 inch spacer.
thanks for your help and i will post pics soon. just got it on the road friday. its got the NP205.
didn't have much time to drive it much with work and all but can't wait to dial it in more.
